The 2022 MTV Video Music Awards will return to New Jersey’s Prudential Center in Newark on Sunday, August 28 with Jack Harlow, Kendrick Lamar, and Lil Nas X all leading this year’s show in nominations.
The VMA’s are known for star-studded attendees, iconic sets, fun hosts, memorable fashion and performances, and the highly anticipated Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award recipient announcement.
Our Top 3 Picks for most memorable VMA performances are:
Michael Jackson-1995
It's the dance precision for us. Michael Jackson’s VMA performance of the song titled “Dangerous” from the Dangerous Album had soul, swag, and boldness. It was the best VMA performance ever! Michael and the ensemble told a story through each dance move. At the end of the performance, Michael’s sister Icon Janet Jackson participated in the standing ovation in amazement of her brother's epic stage show. MJ is the GOAT for music, dance, and entertainment. This show in particular was another moment in his unmatched career that proved he is the best showman of all time. No wonder MTV named an award after him.
Eminem -2000
The greatest Hip Hop performance at the MTV VMAs came from Eminem aka Slim Shady. He arrived at the 2000 VMA’s with hundreds of Slim Shady look-alikes outside of Radio City Music Hall in NYC. Eminem and the fake Slim Shady’s entered the concert hall with their bleached blond hair, and white t-shirts. During Eminem’s performance of “The Real Slim Shady” he gave Carson Daily a pound on the way to the stage. The performance ended with his hit song from The Marshall Mathers LP, “The Way I Am.”
Madonna-1990
At the 1990 MTV Video Music Awards Madonna's performance of “Vogue” had the world striking a pose. The costumes, the lyrics, the dancers, and Madonna’s voice was so fun to watch. People are still viewing the performance on YouTube in 2022.
