On Monday, January 6, three-time Academy Award-nominated costume designer Arianne Phillips and three-time Art Directors Guild (ADG) Award-winning production designer François Audouy attended the opening night reception of ‘Design Behind the Scenes’, an exhibit showcasing the artistry behind Searchlight Pictures’ new film, ‘A Complete Unknown’. The event was held at the exhibit space in ASU FIDM, Downtown Los Angeles, celebrating the meticulous craftsmanship in the film’s costumes, props, and sets.
The reception was attended by notable figures, including the film’s two-time Academy Award-nominated director James Mangold (Walk the Line, Ford v Ferrari), actress Monica Barbaro (Top Gun: Maverick), who portrays Joan Baez in the film, as well as acclaimed costume designers Ruth Carter (Black Panther), Mark Bridges (Licorice Pizza, The Fabelmans), Danny Glicker (Saturday Night, The Whale), and Albert Wolsky (All That Jazz). Other attendees included actress Lola Glaudini (Ray Donovan) and actor Jimmy Jean-Louis (Joy).
The Design Behind the Scenes exhibit, featuring period-accurate costumes, set pieces, and props by Phillips and Audouy, as seen in the film’s performances by Timothée Chalamet, Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook, and Scoot McNairy, will be open to the public at ASU FIDM from January 6 to Saturday, January 18. A Complete Unknown was released in theaters on December 25, 2024.
