The tiny Alpine village of Hallstatt is a hidden gem that you should go to when you find yourself in Austria; this lakeside town that feels just like a dream is perfect for a one day tour for those who search for a quick adventure to one of the most beautiful places you'll ever see. This UNESCO world heritage site used to be only accessible by boat, however, nowadays, it is accessible in various ways, and it has become one of the favorite tourist destinations due to its beauty and uniqueness. So come with me as I tell you a bit about this beautiful destination.

• How do I get there?

There are different ways available for you to get to Hallstatt, if you are thinking of going there from the beautiful Viena, you can do it by car, as it is now an option, it takes you about 3 hours to get there, however, if you do not have access to a vehicle, or you are a tourist and you are not planning on renting a car there's also other ways to get there, the first and the longest is by train, although the trains in Vienna are excellent there is no direct train from Viena to Hallstatt, so you'll have to take several trains, and the second, and personally my favorite, is to take a day tour, there are different companies for you to choose, that do day trips to Hallstatt from Vienna almost every day, and advantage of this is that most of these tours take you to other places as well as to Hallstatt, so you will be able to see more of Austria, however, I would recommend people to stay more than a day in this beautiful destination because, although it seems small, there are plenty of things to do here.

• What to expect?

Depending on which time of the year you decide to visit is the number of people you'll see, I went during April, and there were not too many people; however, I've heard other people say that they experience crowds of people on this tiny city of Austria, and it is no surprise as this has become one of the most touristic places in Europe during the past few years. When you go there, you'll see that this town is relatively small, that does not mean that there is not a lot of things to do, so if you decide to make a one-day trip, make sure you plan it perfectly, so you have the time to do all of the activities offered in this picture-perfect town.

• The Market square

Surrounded by mountains and a beautiful view of the lake, the marketplace is located in the town center, which is one of the most popular locations of Hallstatt. Surrounded by gorgeous buildings, you'll be delighted by its beauty, and you'll also be able to find different coffee shops and restaurants in this area as well as various shops. This area is quite essential due to the events that take place here through the year, like the Christmas market, to get there is very easy, you have to take a short walk through this town, and I'm sure you'll find this place.

• Dachstein Hallstatt Skywalk

If you want to experience breathtaking views, this is where you should be going; the Skywalk consists of a viewing platform that allows tourists to go up to 2700 meters and see the beauty of Hallstatt. this is located at the ski resort in the Dachstein Mountains, so if you are looking for the best spot to view the city, this is where you should go.

• Hallstatt salt mine

This 7,000-year-old mine is one of the most incredible attractions located in this city; you can access it through the funicular railway; this fantastic attraction will allow you to see the mine as well as to hear the stories that it holds, like the stories of the "man in salt" a corpse that was found there. While there, make sure to take some time to visit the underground salt lake where you'll see the longest wooden slide in Europe; if you are taking your kids here, they'll have the time of their lives in this slide, or even if you are going by yourself, your inner kid will be delighted with this underground slide.
