March is a time to celebrate the strength, achievements, and contributions of women around the world. Among those making a lasting impact is Mrs. Fabiana Africain, a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and passionate author. Born and raised in Boston to Haitian parents, Fabiana’s journey has been shaped by faith, culture, and a deep commitment to uplifting others. Please enjoy our interview!
As we celebrate Women’s History Month, what does this time of recognition mean to you, both personally and as a Haitian-American woman?
Celebrating Women’s History Month makes me feel personally as a Haitian-American truly content that I am a woman who never gave up in life no matter what challenges I faced. I am also a mother to my amazing adult son and as a woman that feeling is priceless since only women can give birth. I love my Haitian culture and would never not mention it like some celebrities do. I am married to a wonderful Haitian man who is also my Chef, so I am definitely eating really well lol. My dad always made it a habit for me to visit Haiti every summer while I was in high school and I was exposed to my parent’s culture and learned a lot about it. There are some powerful Haitian women in this world. When they migrate to the U.S., they make sure that they have a stable career. I am content that I can be a role model for not only Americans and other nationalities, but also Haitian women too.
Being a role model and powerhouse in the literary world, what message would you share with young women striving to achieve their dreams while balancing faith, family, and career?
The message I would share with a young woman who is striving to achieve their dreams while balancing faith, family and career would be to read my book Five Secret Tips For A Balanced Life, lol. These five tips that I even apply myself will help an overwhelmed woman balance their hectic life.
Congratulations on all of your success so far as an accomplished author. Please share with us some of your most proud moments in your career so far.
Thank you, I give Glory to God for being an accomplished author. I also have a wonderful support team which are my husband, my son, Pastor and my Maid of Honor. They always support me and I am blessed to have them in my life. They help with marketing and ideas too. My husband is on the cover of two of my books and he is my model for my ecommerce clothing store. My Pastor continuously conducts monthly business seminars which I continue to attend, and My Maid of Honor is my best friend and provides the girl talk all women need. My son provides feedback about my live streams that I host on Tiktok. My proud moments in my career so far are being on a cover magazine back in January 2024, my Team and I are taking the marketing part of my career seriously and I love the outcome so far.
They say every writer has a routine or ritual. Do you have any consistent writing habits — perhaps a favorite snack, playlist, or time of day that sparks your writing creativity?
Since I am retired, I don’t have a routine to write my books. I have a conversation with God first about my book idea then, I start typing when he replies, lol. Remember he works through me to help others. I have the spirit of discernment so when the ideas pops up, I go straight to my office. I remember book number 15, The Secrets to Winning God’s Heart/The Powerful Benefits of Saving Your Soul, that idea literally came to mind while I was watching a movie. I had asked God, how can your children know you better? This is when he replied, while I was watching a movie days later. lol I immediately ran to my office and started typing and that book was published on 8/3/2024.
Your work as a professional interpreter and translator is truly inspiring. plays a crucial role in bridging language barriers. What does this work mean to you personally and professionally?
When I was a Haitian-Creole Interpreter and Translator, I loved it. I have a passion to help others so that was amazing bridging the gap for my people. Their satisfaction is truly rewarding. This type of work can also be stressful since you are interpreting very private and personal matters. I was born and raised in Boston and the fact that I can read and write Haitan-Creole is a blessing.
What inspired you to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice, and how has that background shaped your understanding of justice, advocacy, and community service?
I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice in 2016 from the University of Massachusetts Amherst because at one point in my life, I wanted to be an FBI Agent. I was inspired to help others since I saw that the justice system is not fair. That obviously was not in my destiny and did not work out. When we think we have a plan for our lives, God has a better one. I love anything that is challenging and those criminal justice courses were extreme. I loved it. Like I always say, Knowledge is power. That background in Criminal Justice makes me realize that as a community we need to always stick together especially as a black woman.
Looking ahead, what are you most excited about in 2025 and what can we be on the lookout for?
Looking ahead, I am most excited about the many successful doors that will be opening for me in 2025 with God’s grace, since people are starting to learn about me. I am looking forward to reaching more readers to encourage and inspire them. You can be on the lookout to see me on a TV show one day.
