Gregg Hillhouse: From Phoenix Dreamer to Entertainment Industry Star — A Journey of Passion, Perseverance, and Faith

By Tammy Reese

Gregg Hillhouse’s journey in the entertainment industry is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and faith. Hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, Gregg always knew that the world of performance was where he belonged. His early years were filled with drama classes and school productions, where he thrived on the stage, bringing joy and laughter to those around him. Gregg’s path wasn’t always smooth, but his unwavering commitment to his craft, combined with the steadfast support of his loved ones, has carried him through every challenge. Today, as an accomplished actor, model, and reality TV star, Gregg continues to inspire others with his talent, dedication, and authentic approach to life and art.

As a movie connoisseur, what are some of your favorite films and genres, and how do they influence your work as an actor, model, and reality TV star?

BIG fan of horror films. Always been enthralled how a specific film can touch on multiple levels such as humor, terror and suspense. A good horror film embodies all three of those aspects and then some. Problem is, it’s hard to find a girl who wants to go on a date to see a horror movie with you. If she does, she’s a keeper! Action and comedy, would be my next favorite genre of films. Superhero movies, heroes in general will have you feeling like you can conquer the world! Always created a positive influence because it depicts the nature of good and evil. You don’t always have to be a hero to do the right thing. Half the time, I have no idea what I am supposed to do, I only know what I can do! And I know I have to try (become a better person). Comedy/humor is important to have, if you can’t laugh at yourself then I feel bad for you. Control what you can control — add a little humor into life. I pride myself on being able to make others laugh, brighten the mood.

Can you recall a particular film or filmmaker that has had a profound impact on your artistic perspective and approach to your craft?

Spike Lee, has always been one of my favorite film producers/directors. His ability to convey a robust story with authenticity is second to none. Spike tells “our” story — yet, another reason why I am a proud black man. A proud man first and foremost. Remaining your authentic self is something to be coveted. A trait that is not always common.

When you reflect on your journey so far, what are you most proud of, and what do you see as your greatest accomplishment?

Doing it my way! In life, you always receive help along the way. That’s what makes life great; however, I’ve checked all the boxes. Done everything in a good order. College educated and worked my own way through college. Mama had six kids, no other way to do it other than pull my own weight.

How do you stay grounded and true to yourself amidst the demands and pressures of the entertainment industry?

I never feel like I’m greater than any one cause. Any particular person. I do remain very confident however. Always feel that I am the man for the job. Trust me, I’ll get it done. The gym keeps me stable. Maintaining health and positivity provides tranquility. Just because you hear “no” today doesn’t mean it’s a “no” tomorrow. Each day a door closes, and each day opportunity presents itself.

What message do you hope to convey to audiences through your work, and how do you strive to inspire them through your performances?

Don’t count out the underdog. One of six children, a twin with four sisters. I am here to convey that hard work will never go out of style. The value of hard work and persistence, will damn near elevate your life. Keep faith in the lord and put yourself in a position to succeed. Surround yourself with likeminded individuals, individuals who can teach you. Somewhere out there, I know there is a young man or woman who can relate to my circumstances. If I can be a vessel, I am happy to serve.

As you continue to navigate the exciting world of entertainment, what are some of your long-term goals and aspirations?

I have aspirations to succeed in acting. Took a few acting courses at Arizona State University, turned out to be a few of my favorite classes. I realized that directing my attention towards the entertainment industry was in my best interest. Short term goals, I remain active in the modeling industry. LA Swim week, New York Swim week ahead. You never know who you meet in this life, treat every individual with reverence. Success sometimes comes when you least expect it but it’s important to keep ready.

Are there any upcoming projects or initiatives you’re particularly excited about that you can share with us?

I’ve got casting calls lined up. Somewhat superstitious, I don't want to reveal too much as I don't want to jinx myself. Also have my eyes on LA Fashion week upcoming this fall.

What advice would you give to aspiring actors, models, and reality TV stars who are looking to break into the industry?

My advice to any personnel looking to explore acting is to stay the course. Delusions of grandeur, can have you looking for a quick exit. Don’t get me wrong, it’s important to keep confident but the road to success is not always a clear path. A chess board of life, maneuver sideways, backwards in order to ascend forward. Don’t be too proud to start from the bottom. Build yourself, build your portfolio so when your number (name) is called you’re ready! Don’t be afraid to be told no. It’s not personal, yet it comes with the territory. I may have lost as much as I’ve won but I win, I hit BIG. You can’t have success without knowing failure. Do the work and don’t burn any bridges. Don’t cheat yourself!
