From the inception of the laboratory, Samuel has been instrumental in shaping its success, leading a diverse team with a focus on communication, mindset, and shared goals. His experience in public speaking and leadership has been pivotal in preparing him for this role, driving the company to not only excel in dental technology but also to make a significant impact on the community and environment. In this exclusive interview, Samuel shares insights into his career journey, the qualities essential for successful leadership, and ACCESS Dental Laboratories’ initiatives aimed at sustainability and social responsibility.
Can you share a bit about your career journey and how you became COO?
I’ve been a part of ACCESS Dental Laboratories before there was a physical Lab. From the beginning stages of going door to door for community support, to drafting a vision on how to utilize the space available for maximum efficiency. The location we are in was our third viable option and it worked best; I believe. I was first brought on as the General Manager at ADL. Before opening up and some trial and error, it was decided that the role of COO would suit the company better and put me in a position to lead a team of men and women, to help bring the company to success.
What qualities do you believe are essential for a successful team under your leadership?
Mindset is important whenever you have a team from different backgrounds and from different places of previous employment. Everyone will refer back to what they did at other companies. When you can get your team to see the benefit of everyone having the same goal for the betterment of the company a lot of pitfalls you encounter will seem insignificant. Other important qualities are communication, follow-through and focus.
What skills and experiences do you believe were most critical in preparing you for this role?
My experience in public speaking has helped me a lot in terms of understanding that everyone will learn differently and what you need to reach one team member might be different from the needs of the next. My background in leadership has shaped me and prepared me to take on a role of this magnitude, in a field that is demanding.

What advice would you give to someone aspiring to reach an executive position like COO?
The advice I would give someone aspiring to be involved in any operations position would be to know the field you are working in, there will be times where you will need to understand what a team member is doing to lead them correctly. Also, understand what you weaknesses are and put people in place that are strong ion those areas.
How is your company addressing sustainability and social responsibility?
Here at ACCESS Dental Laboratories, we have a unique system where the doctor can call in and actually speak to the technician working on their cases, in most cases every step of the way. This benefits the company when a technician is actually feeling like he is valued and trusted to be in a position to communicate and help a problem solve cases. We still hire from our community and train in-house, and also offer financial literacy classes to our employees. This treatment allows our team members to go out into the homes and communities and relay what they’ve learned to the people around them.
Can you share any initiatives or projects aimed at making a positive impact on the community or environment?
At the moment we’re strategizing to partner with a local college and the city school district to have dental lab technician classes added to the school district curriculum. This will allow a student to get a head start on what it takes to do this job and give them a head start on how an actual Dental Laboratory works while still in High school.
What are you most proud of in your career so far?
So far, I’m most proud of first, still being here going into our 3rd year of operating. Secondly, I am most proud of the team we have built here and the great work they are doing. The individuals we have hired from the community with no experience are really excelling in a potentially overwhelming and stressful field. They’ve held up very well.
Is there anything else you would like to share about your role or your company’s vision for the future?
Our vision for the future is to expand and continue to support our doctors and our community. We made a promise to them, and we intend to keep it!

Eventually, she went to Empire State College to obtain her degree in media studies. After graduation, she did more theater and wrote and produced her own videos to spread awareness on social issues through the arts.
