Renowned actress Jasmine Guy has won her first Emmy award for her outstanding performance in the short-form project "Chronicles of Jessica Wu". Not only is it Guy’s first Emmy, but it was also her first nomination.
The Tubi series centers around “a young girl on the Autism spectrum who has mastered martial arts. She becomes a hero in her city and takes down some of the most ruthless villains in Los Angeles. Guy was nominated as “Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series. Others nominated alongside Guy were “Game of Thrones” actress Nathalie Emmanuel and Paula Pell.
Although this is Jasmine Guy's first Emmy nomination, she has appeared in multiple television series and movies that have significantly impacted Black film and television culture. The legendary actress, writer, and director is best known for her iconic portrayal of Whitley Gilbert in the hit sitcom "A Different World." For her outstanding performance, she won four consecutive NAACP Image Awards from 1990 through 1993 in the category of "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series."
