The highly anticipated WonderCon, organized by San Diego Comic Con International - the largest comic book and popular arts convention in the world at one point according to Guinness World Records - kicks off on Good Friday, March 29th, 2024 at the Anaheim Convention Center. This event is set to draw over 65,000 attendees boasts over 900 exhibitors spread across a massive 412,000-square-foot Exhibit Hall, showcasing a wide array of comics, original art, toys, and merchandise from renowned artists, publishers, and retailers. Attendees can look forward to exclusive movie and television programming, panels featuring top comics professionals, autograph sessions, games, portfolio reviews, the iconic Masquerade event, and much more.
David Blackwelder, a southern gentleman from Alabama, embarked on his cosplaying journey at the tender age of 21, attending his first comic con in Denver. Over the years, he has risen through the ranks to become one of the premier cosplayers in the entire USA. I had the honour of meeting David in New York Comic Con 2023 - the largest Comic Con event in the USA at over 200,000 attendees - perfecting his “Blade Runner” film costume. His talent and creativity were acknowledged when he clinched the 2nd place as the Lead Ape from “Planet of the Apes” films at the esteemed LA Comic Con 2023 - which draws in over 120,000 attendees and boasts a star-studded lineup of celebrities. As a devoted single father to a young son, David, with his passion for full-time cos-playing, brings a unique style and unmatched creativity to the industry.
